MEXICO, Chihuahua mint, cap-and-rays 8 reales, 1858 BA, very rare, NGC VF 20. KM-377.2; DP-Ca31. Antique-brass toning with strong contrast over bold design elements, including the mysterious assayer BA (Bruno Arriada), working for a brief time in this year only, a key rarity in the cap-and-rays series that Dunigan-Parker refers to as a "contender for the rarest coin of this mint... only a few specimens known," one of only seven straight-graded by NGC.
